Placer deposits on Hixon Creek have been worked since 1874 at various points. Placer gold occurs both as post glacial concentra- tions in low lying benches and as remnants of a pre-glacial channel.

Estimates from the Ministry of Mines Reports are that up to $2,000,000 worth of gold was taken from this creek prior to 1945 (George Cross Newsletter #132, 1986).

"Data from the Cariboo mining district indicate that supergene leaching of gold dispersed within massive sulphides by Tertiary deep weathering followed by Cenozoic erosion is the most likely explanation for the occurrence of coarse gold nuggets in Quaternary sediments" (Exploration in British Columbia 1989, page 147).
